Shiitake Mushrooms

Shiitake Mushrooms, our Covid project took off in October of 2020.  By April 2021 we had our first shiitake pinning.  They were the spores that we drilled into the thinnest of the limbs that we had cut.  It would take two full years for our larger limbs to mushroom.  It was two and a half years before a huge stump next to the house pinned some impressive beauties.  Our biggest worry?  Our city water would kill the fungus.  No, it won't.  Our biggest mistake?  Thinking they needed rain water and outside air.  The logs have almost no snails when kept under a carport like structure on gravel. We can not depend on the rain water to help us water, but it is twice a week for ten minutes each time.  Not having a snail problem was worth the 20 minute trade off.  Should we diversify and grow other type mushrooms?  Yes to diversify and no to other type mushrooms.
